R&M Solutions, a cabling solutions supplier for high-quality communication networks successfully tested the commercially available 100GBASE-SR10 CFP full-duplex transceiver modules to transmit Ethernet packets at 850 nm wavelength. The intention of the test was to confirm the performance of components, assembling capabilities and internal test methods and to reach a bit error ratio better than 10-12. Since there wasn’t loss of single packet, the test was considered to be successful after a certain time and the high performance of R&M’s products were confirmed.

R&M Solutions founded in 1964 contribute the cable solutions world ensuring operational reliability in voice, data and image transmission. R&M solution’s maximum availability and cost-effective network operation guarantees that the networks are sustainable and the investments are safeguarded. They are used in office buildings and homes by network operators and in industry.

They conducted the measurements in their headquarters at Wetzikon, Switzerland. The test started with the random selection of series of MTP Trunks at different lengths from 5 meters to 160 meters. The company cleaned different adapters and plugs to form a link of 675 meter along with 10 MTP adapters in between. For throughput simulation, frame sizes of 64-, 128-, 256-, 1024-, 1280-, 1518- and 9000 bytes were defined to analyze the theoretical Vs the actual throughput.  100GBASE-SR10 CFP transceiver modules which are ideal for short range applications were used to transmit Ethernet packets at 850 nm wavelength. The test was considered complete after 13hours, 23minutes and 38seconds.

"Parallel optics are been established in the data center infrastructure world during recent years. The usage of this technology leads to more challenges for engineers, planners and data center managers. Link lengths needs to be planned more carefully than ever before. Cabling systems should be selected taking loss budgets and link segments very detailed into consideration," says Gaurav Ahluwalia, Managing Director of R&M India.
